Vitamin D Benfits

Science and Supplement News: Vitamin D for Cancer Prevention The news about vitamin D just keeps getting better. Most recently, two study reviews from the University of California, San Diego, suggest that vitamin D might help protect against cancers of the breast, colon and ovary. The first analysis, published in the October 2005 issue of the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Biology was a review of 18 earlier studies showing that a low intake of vitamin D was associated with a higher than normal risk of colon cancer. The researchers suggested that a daily intake of 1,000 IU of vitamin D would cut the risk of colon cancer in half. The second analysis, published in the December 27, 2005 online edition of the American Journal of Public Health reviewed 63 earlier studies of the effect of vitamin D on colon, breast, prostate and ovarian cancer. Most of the studies found that a lower risk of all four diseases was associated with a higher intake of vitamin D.
