Which Foods are Among the Healthiest?
USDA analysis of foods for content of flavenoid substances in food which
"are of great interest in nutrition because of their potent antioxidant
capacity and possible protective effects on human health." Indeed, they seem
to play a protective role in most, if not all disease (editor's note.)
For brevity's sake, they state that "apples, chocolate and grapes" are the
leading sources. It should be noted that grape seed* is far and away the
foremost source. Other good sources include; plums, cranberries,
blueberries, pinto beans, red kidney beans, small red beans, pecans,
pistachios and hazelnuts (filberts.) Emphases added.
*Obtainable usually as large red grapes with seeds, in supermarkets. The
seeds are chewed quite easily.
